In an age of political upheaval and social unrest, the allure of hiding under the covers is strong. This course seeks to rouse us from that retreat and provide vital tools to combat feelings of helplessness in the face of turmoil. Over four engaging summer afternoons, we will explore: 1) the significance and purpose of our civic space, 2) the importance of social capital, 3) building trust within communities, and 4) engaging in productive dialogue with those of differing views. While we can’t solve all the world's challenges—especially when agreement on them is elusive—this class aims to empower us to make our corner of the world a little better each day.
